A very curious and out-going Therian fox, Lorkan was born in a small secluded village in Blackwood forest. He was somewhat slim with orange and black fur and the ears of a fennec fox which were common as pets. Raised by the village huntress, Leidran, and a member of the Society of the Silver Compass, Balthier, Lorkan is a decent tracker and good marksman. Unfortunately, his parents would not allow him to hunt or explore very far from the village. He found this odd, considering Leidran was a hunter who would venture outside of the forest to hunt some days, and Balthier often traveled far to complete his assignments. He figured Leidran at the very least would bring him on one of her hunts. But it would not be so. Until the moment of Lorkan's coming of age 17, he would remain close to his mother's bosom. He would not learn of the outside world because of his family's protectiveness. He would not venture beyond her reach because he feared their reasoning for this.... but that would soon change...
Lorkan was 12 when the storyteller ventured into their village. She was a Ku'rasi, and a beautiful lightning Ku'rasi at that. Her markings depicted lightning bolts of varying hues that stretched from her eyes and temples down to her throat and into her forehead. The stories she told revealed the different beasts, races, and cities that Lorkan had never truly been able to know. The dire beasts, the different guilds, the ravagers, the largest of the cities, she even explained the memory flames to the children. She also spoke of a small, black dragon that wandered the forest. She had no idea why it was there or where it came from and she wanted to know if the villagers knew. The villagers were baffled and Lorkan's parents had a quiet exchange after the mention of the black dragon. This was it. He could no longer take the secrets outside village... especially the dragon. He needed to venture beyond his hunting grounds...
So he snuck away that night under the cover of darkness. He brought with him a ration of food, a dagger, and a bow. After an hour he almost gave up. He felt lied to. He felt miserable, and the sound beating that awaited him when he got home made him almost stay away. But suddenly he saw a brilliant blackness through the small patches of moonlit ground. Could it be? It was. It was about the size of a small dog and it's black scales almost exuded their own aura. It's wings unfurled momentarily and he gasped as the darkness around it actually unfurled with them. Well, until it turned into his direction. It unnerved him... It simply stared with it's glittering black eyes for a time. And then it darted away. Lorkan gave chase against his better judgement but the dragon quickly disappeared. He searched but it was gone. Just as he turned, the dragon was there, right in his face. He stumbled backwards over a root and the dragons breathing beecame labored and heavy almost like it was... chuckling to itself? He reached out to touch it and it lowered its head as if giving an okay... but a large broadhead arrow burying itself in the tree next to the dragon and a rushing Balthier cut that meeting short. His parents had found him and it seems they didn't appreciate the dragons humor. Neither did the dragon appeciate their lack of it because it suddenly darted away MUCH faster than before this time. His father scooped him up and his mother continued to concentrate on the fleeing beast without giving chase.
Without going into too much detail, Lorkan was promptly berrated for leaving, hugged, clouted on the ear, and told to never mention the dragon... and not necessarily in that order. He was taken home and received the sound beating he had expected... but he was commended by Balthier for his determination... before recieving another clout. His mother on the other hand forbid him from ever leaving the gates again and no amount of pleading or begging would change that for the next five years...
But then finally his 17th birhday came came after five excruciating years and he was allowed to leave. He'd prepared a bow (though his ability had degraded due to his seclusion in the village), his dagger, and his other essential supplies for travel. He had every intent to traverse the realm looking for that dragon... he knew there was something to it, between it and him. He simply had to find it to confirm. Saying goodbye to his mother and father, he started his venture for the mystifying black dragon. He knew he would need contacts and luckily his father had them to share... His father told him there was a convoy that would soon be scouring the area to form a Barony soo he should start with them. He also told him to seek out those who were part of the Clan of the Crossroads and ask them for membership as it would increse his flow of information. Finally, he told him that the Society didn't skimp on the pay if you proved worth... and that it also held many informants, but most of them kept "professional discretion" and wouldn't disclose info unless you have something to bring to the table. Lorkan could tell his father wanted him to accomplish his goal and was trying to assist him. With that he thanked his father and mother and began his journey to find the Black Dragon (which he had decided to call Scath as 'Black Dragon' seemed fitting for a ferocious monster, not the beastie he had encountered). His first stop, that convoy...
