The forest was quiet when Q'tar approached his meditation tree and Tree Brother's sapling. The Kur'asi, no longer dressed in his usual golden and well tailored garb, walked up quietly to the trees. He was dressed very simple, with a long cloth gown and dark green cloak. He also had with him a walking stick and a small burlap bag over his shoulder.
He dropped to his knees and raised the hood, raising his solemn looking face to Brother. It was a few long minutes before he spoke.
"I have failed, Brother. I have failed in the creation of this town, failed as a business owner, failed in my friendships, failed as a Noble. As it pains me to say, but I must leave Cynderfall to its own sinful nature, forever."
He reached into the bag and removes the bracelet given to him by the treefolk awhile back, and the simple wooden wand that Tree Brother had given him. "I was supposed to keep Tree Mother a secret. But it seems that even the powers of the trees themselves do not welcome me. So the secrets of Mother were discovered. And your life was put in danger because of our friendship amongst your brethren, dooming you to death even before you finish regrowth." He placed these items upon one of Brother's branches. "I am no longer worthy of these."
He placed a hand upon Brother, tears rolling down his face. "I must leave, my friend. And I shall never return. Farewell."
The Kur'asi rose once again to his feet, lowered the large hood over his head, and began walking on the road North, hoping that the Flame will accept his failures.....

Many miles from the settlement, dusk falls upon the fresh road. A living shadow separates from the western forest and falls into step by Qtar.
Silence reigns for an hour more before the bloodstained cowl drops to reveal the gaunt and rather obviously undead countenance of Jace.
He waits for a few moments for any reaction to fade, and speaks. "Headed away? This has the looks of a solemn departure rather than a trade mission. "

The Kur'asi was aware that he was not alone on the road, but he cared not. He noticed the hooded figure out of the corner of his eye walking slightly behind him, but said nothing. Perhaps in some small way the figure was some sort of undead brigand that seem to love calling these woods home, or another Kriegen that wants him dead, or one of the Relelhart cartel wanting to finish the job.
Well, here I am, Q'tar thought as he kept walking, not changing his pace at all.
He only stopped when the figure raised his hood, showing a familiar face. Q'tar did the same as he fully turned to face the necromancer. They did not speak for a few moments....
When Jace addressed him, Q'tar forced a small smile. "You are correct, sir. I am heading home for the final time. I will not be returning." the Kur'asi managed to say.
He held out his hand in greeting. "I never got to thank you for your assistance in saving Squire Sharara's life. You have my thanks."

Jace becomes visibly irritated at being confused for Jasper, then recalls he has been absent from Cynderfall far longer than he perhaps should have been. Maybe he should visit more, he thinks.
"Necromancer is no longer a title i aspire to, friend. Perhaps you were thinking of that black clad git that keeps pressing into my neck of the woods?"
The two amble slowly, passing small talk until recent events were recalled from the town's perspective.
At news of the blood thrall and death knights, Jace steps back in genuine shock.
"I know there was another vampire about from back when Zerxes was active... but I didn't think he'd become bold enough to attack town in such a way..."

(Mistaken identity....sorry about that)
"Well, it has, sir. The town Guard of Squire Sharara's seems to want to spend more time inside a tavern than doing their actual job. Nobility should never travel alone, especially at night." Q'tar mused. Guess there was no more reason to mask his discontent on the dealings of a town he no longer recognizes.
"Perhaps they find more favor following around a thug lord instead." The Kur'asi spat.
He stepped a bit closer to his old friend. "Keep an eye on her, will you for me? If the damned undead has once again taken up residence in these parts, she might be threatened again. It appears I am no longer capable of doing so." he said quietly.

The vampire listens in silence for a long while, biding his thoughts and ordering his mind long after his companion went quiet again. Finally he spoke, halting now and again, but rapidly gaining strength and assurance.
"You intend to reunite with the memory flame... to pass on your knowledge and memories to the future."
After a moments consideration, Jace continues.
"I would add to that a... seed, you might say. A kernel of truth I've been learning from my lord Ourboros. As well, how i had to die to find purpose."
The vampire continues to talk through the night and the next day, hardly needing to breathe. He's decided to travel with qtar, all the way to his friends end, should he be welcome and his stories wanted.

The broken Kur'asi listened to his friend talk for a long time. Even when he was setting up a makeshift camp and preparing a small meal.
At first light, noticing that Jace was still with him, he could not help but crack a small smile. A friend that cared not for politics or deceit. Without words he poured dirt over the fire and packed up the small camp. Then they started North again, in serene silence.
He thought about what Jace said about the Memory Flame. The ritual has always been private affairs, for the outside world knows very little about the rituals. He was not even sure if the memories that Q'tar himself has acquired will be sufficient enough for transference. Hew wondered if he was even worthy of standing before the Flame at all.
He thought again of Jace. If the information he possesses is of use to his people, maybe they will allow him to be present, and witness his final transference..
Q'tar smiled warmly. At least he will not be alone most of this final journey.
