Being raised to be in the position of Squire had been possibly the last thing that Sharara had expected to happen, on the day of Seth's funeral. There had been many words of support and congratulations from her fellow adventurers, citizens in the town and particularly the guard. Almost immediately, she and Q'Tar both had been tossed into the forging flames. Between how well Cinderfall did, the Kregen and the Ravagers, all would see if either or both of them would rise to the occasion. She and Q'Tar had spent time speaking a little on those matters and other basics to begin growing Cinderfall into a solid, prospering, town. Now, though, she stood on the training grounds for the town guard where she had called the guardsman to gather. It was time to begin.
"Thank you, all of you, for gathering. A lot has happened over the last few months; a lot has been lost and a lot has been learned. I know that the job has been difficult and often thankless. I also know that there have been those who have come here to serve as guardsman that have disliked being stationed here. We need to settle this now, before we move forward." Sharara paused momentarily. "If you do not want to be here, you are free to put in for a transfer or resignation before the end of the day. I will think nothing less of you for it because this is a difficult job and more often than not it is not a glorious one. Our numbers are better served by those who want to be here, to protect and defend."
"With that being said, being a guardsman is not as thankless as it may seem on the surface. Your service provides safety for those who cannot defend themselves and their families, there will be young boys and girls who look up to you for what you do, the people you help to protect work for you; they forge your weapons and your armor, they serve you food and ale, they weave the clothes you wear. Their words may not always be there, but their actions are. Those of you gathered here, that choose to remain, are the founding generation of the Cinderfall Guard. It is you that those who come next will compare themselves to. From this point, it is us who sets the tone and image of the Cinderfall Guard." The Ku'rasi smiled a little. "We have suffered losses, but we faced a powerful enemy. He has been defeated and in those fires of battle, we have been made stronger. This town, this guard, I want to see it be something we are proud of, that those we protect are proud of. It is us, noone else, that holds the victory we gained that night. Are you with me?"
Sharara gave them a few moments to react before lifting a hand to signal for everyone to quiet down. "We have a lot of work to do. We will need to inventory our armory and restock what may be needed, we need to set proper patrol and posting schedules, we need to work on recruiting and we need to work on training. Over the next days, I will be speaking to each of you individually to gauge your skills, strengths and weaknesses in order to pair you during training and while on duty. I will also be reviewing ranks and positions in order to better organize and strengthen our ranks. There is nothing to worry about on that regard, but we do need a proper chain of command which has been shaken up more than once over the last few months. Daily training sessions will begin tomorrow. With that, I will let each of you get back to your business. If you have any concerns, you can come find me. I look forward to continueing to serve with all of you."
It was with those words that she dismissed everyone back to what they had been doing. Like them, she had a lot of work ahead of her and she stepped off the training grounds to get started with it.
