Jace sits quietly against a fir, thinking quietly to himself. It is soon to be twilight, but he has forgotten his fear of night in the Ashwood. A crunching noise disturbs his solitude - someone coming up the road, perhaps? He softly creeps the score of yards between his resting point and the road, and peers out from behind an enormous tree.

(The group is headed from Southgard, headed to see the Grim on the outskirts of Riverwood. They come across Jace, peering out from behind a large tree.)
Raphael "Hello Jace! It hasn't been long... We just met in the Tavern not that long ago..."
Ashe *Ashe waves* It's been quite some time since I've seen you, Jace. What are you doing way out here?
Priest "Jace, it's been quite a while since we last spoke. How have you been?"
Sharara For the moment, Sharara says nothing, but does take a step closer to study Jace after giving Raphael a glance.
Jace *Jace removes himself from behind the tree and steps into the road* "Good morrow, everyone. I trust you've been safe? I've been well, continuing my research. How is everyone? What brings you to this neck of the woods?"
Ashe *Ashe steps forward to speak* "We have been doing well. Headed North from Southgard. What research were you working on again? Does it have something to do with those runes from awhile back?"
Raphael *Raphael carefully inspects Jace's current condition. Being careful not to stare too obviously.*
Sharara Sharara waits to see what Jace's response is to Ashe's question is.
Priest Naphem waits eagerly for the answer to ashes question.
Jace Jace stretches and pulls his hood low subconsciously.
"Well... at this moment, the research is fruitless. Looking for a few answers. What happened in Southguard?"
To Sharara, he adds "You're being quiet. Something the matter? "
Sharara Sharara gives a small shake of her head. "Nothing's wrong, with me at least. You, though, are looking a little paler than I remember."
Jace Jace smiles. "A condition brought on by near constant shade for several months combined with a thick hood. I appreciate your concern, though. I was pleasantly surprised to see you, hope you can assist with a spot of thaumaturgy."
Sharara "You did disappear there for a time. I had wondered where you had gone or if you had gone through some further change." She raises a brow slightly. "What sort of thaumoturgy?"
Raphael "Oh yeah, remember I told you Jace could help with the spike issue but needed your help?"
Sharara "Ah, yes. I was hoping Jace might give me more specifics."
Priest Naphem perks up
"Thaumaturgy?" "Thaumaturgy... Thurmatology... I can never get the two straight."
Jace "Simply put, I have the means to create natural guardians. Now that the forest isn't trying to strangle the settlement, I feel better about using this power. Interested?"
Ashe "Sounds useful. What's the catch?"
Priest "I would be willing to assist you, though I would like to know the exacts of the ritual. Though that can wait till we are close to performing it"
Sharara What type of naturl guardians?
Jace Jace rummaged through a leather bound tome, and showed a page obviously detailing an animate nature ritual. "Ashe had the right of it. I'm in need of supplies and materials. Id ask to trade expertise for funds, perhaps copies of your rituals. "
Ashe "of course" Ashe mutters quietly.
Sharara "I have guardians already."
Jace "That's wonderful. Except I was thinking of the town, not you. But all is well. I'm still interested in the trade of supplies, however.
Sharara "I was under the impression your ritual was for something else other than the town." She shrugs, then looks to Raphael.
Jace Jace laughs and claps Sharara on the back. "I was joking, I meant no harm. And yes, I would take some form of recompense. Drawing in and spinning that much magic is both painful and draining."
Priest " I could assist you in the ritual. Making it less taxing in both power and materials."
Sharara "I don't think this should be done without Seth's permission or tht of Tree brother."
Ashe "I agree"
Jace "Alls the same, I don't mind holding off. What was the problem in south guard? Everyone seems oddly quiet."
Jace begins to grin at an unspoken thought. "What did yall do?"
Ashe "Some ghost possession thing. We dealt with it."
Jace Jace turns fully to face Ashe, fixing her with his slight but toothy grin. "I'm sorry, have I upset you, or wronged you in some way? Because it seems that you truly do not care for me at all. "
"I presume all is good then? Did you destroy the body, banish the spirit? Or simply resolve their last wishes? "
Ashe "No, you're all good. It was just dealt with the wrong way due to a stupid mistake." *Ashe peers at Raphael. "We ended up resolving the last wishes of the dead."
Raphael "Yeah, my elven isn't the best. Burn seems to look like bury..." *Raphael grins almost apologetically.*
Sharara "Raphael had a mission from his order."
the watcher on the wall *not elven*
Raphael "Ok, so in a hurry I misread a word and our elf companion ended a man who might have lived..." "Mistakes happen, right Jace?"
Jace Jace glances at Raphael, smile never fading. "Ah, yes. Always a shame when issues are mishandled. "
Ashe *Ashe pats Raphaels back* "All's well that ends well, right. Mistakes do happen."
Sharara "Hmm. We do still have business to attend to."
Jace "Yes, I suppose we may indeed. An exchange of scrolls?"
Jace "Or did you have something more esoteric in mind?
Sharara "That wasn't the most immediate thing on my mind, but what scrolls are in your possession?"
Jace "I had scrolls. .. had to transfer them to my log."
Jace shows her his meager collection. (I'm not in state, have no idea what the rest of them are. ) "I think that the scroll we're needing is the nature scroll. But, we're on urgent business in Riverwood. Perhaps you could seek out permission from Brother and the Squire, Jace?
Jace "Perhaps I could accompany you, then, and see what can be found in Riverwood. I really don't worry about the squire, still hasn't paid me for the scout job I did months ago. This brother fellow I'm not familiar with though, a relation of yours?" Jace continues to chatter while pouring powder in a circle.
Raphael Raphael backs far away from the circle. "Brother is a creature of the forest. His touch puts people to sleep, and I'm far from relation." Raphael chuckles.
Ashe *Ashe immediately backs away from the circle.*
Sharara Sharara would not take the book from Jace's hands, but instead glancing over it and noting any unique physical characteristics and briefly enough to see if she recognizes anything on the displayed pages before turning her attention to Jace as he begins the circle; not stepping back just yet. "What are you going to do with the circle you're creating now?"
Jace *the scrawl on the pages is an extremely neat rendition of an animate nature ritual.*
"If we were to transcribe scrolls, we would both need this circle to set the spells in our minds."
Jace sets a small bowl, a flint with steel, a small pouch, and a fan out within the circle.
"Bit jumpy, are we? Relax, I've never intended any harm to any of you. It is unfortunate to see how ...mistrusting... you are of me. "
Raphael "I've seen these circles before. They can be nasty things if broken..." Raphael says, almost apologetically. "Afterall, you've given me no reason to distrust you..."
Ashe "Don't take it personally, Jace. You were one of the first people I met in Cynderfall, so I have no reason not to trust you either." Ashe says apologetically, regretting her actions. "My problem is that the only experience I really have regarding rituals are bad ones. I also don't want to accidentally break the circle somehow, as Raphael said, they can be quite nasty."
Sharara "Spells? It requires something other than a copy scroll?" Sharara gives a slight shake of her head. "It's good they're cautious since even accidently disrupting something can have bad effects. They equally kept their distance during my rituals."
Jace "So long as nothing and no-one enters or exits the circle, everyone will be absolutely safe. And yes, copying does indeed require a ritual. Been wanting to start a library, personally, but no one else until you arrived had any interest in the finer arts of ritual weaving."
Sharara "Indeed... Unfortunately, I've had to perform rituals recently. I don't have the materials right now to make a copy of a scroll."
Priest "I can assist in this area. My skills are tailored to this type of work."
Sharara "As much as I may be interested in having a copy of that scroll in my possession, it's something that can wait more so than other things. We still have things to be done." Sharara now takes a step back to join Raphael and Ashe. "Of course, Priest is welcome to stay if he wishes."
Raphael "So we're off to see the Grim then?" Raphael searches out approval from his comrades.
Sharara "Yes, we should get to that."
(The group continues off towards the outskirts of Riverwood, looking for the Grim.)

You continue on your winding way towards river wood and the forest residence of the Grimm. As you near the area where you last saw him a feeling of apprehension fills your spine. It is inexplicable and immune to all the persuasions of courage. By the time you reach his abode you find yourselves jumping at shadows and squirrels. The grimm's house, a dark thing made of rock and unpolished wood, sits in the middle of a small glade. All along the way feral undead stalk you and watch from the shadows of the trees. Outside the hut lies an exceptionally vibrant and fertile garden where many strange and familiar plants bloom and come to ripen. The smells of earth and flowers fill your nostrils as does the smell of ozone. There is a tension in the air here that is unexplainable.

Raphael shouts, "Grim, we have come to seek you out and tell you of how to get to your new home! A city where you can live and grow and not be isolated. With this, we fulfill the Priests's obligations, and you must release him from your curse."
He then looks around, eagerly awaiting the Grim to appear from the hut, but struggling with himself to draw any closer to the strange hut. He looks around at his comrades, wondering if any of them dare enter into the lair of the Grim.

Creepy only began to describe the area as they approached the hut. Sharara found herself glancing behind them from time to time as though they were being followed, or watched. When the hut comes into view, the suspicion did not seem to be so wrong as the feral undead could be seen. She glances at Raphael as he calls out to the Grim and waits several moments for a response before she steps cautiously towards the hut. "Is anyone home?"

(sorry guys I was giving everyone a chance to realize we moved it and a chance to get in on the action. Should move faster now)
After a few moments of silence in the clearing the unnerving presence seemed to thicken. The undead in the brush drew closer and began snarling and beating their arms against the ground. Just before the undead attacked, the grim made his appearance. Once again clad in his rags and uncoordinated fineries, his face mottled and pocked, he stepped forth from his hut. He appears to have been sleeping.
"New home eh?" He looks at the paladin in training dubiously, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. It is currently mid day.

"Yes, a new home... We just came from there. We've received the Captain of the Guard's approval for you to be there. He's expecting you to arrive shortly. Let him know that Raphael sent you and all will be well."
Raphael gets a grin on his face as he finishes his sentence. You can see the look of relief on his face.
"You said you wanted to live where the people are, and we made this happen... now you can release the Priest."
Raphael pauses hesitantly, and then continues, "By the way, I know you've got that spell book. The Captain insists that you assimilate into society so it would probably be best that I held onto it. Your magic won't fit well into that culture."

A spellbook? That was something she would have to take a look at if the Grim did surrender it. "It is true that they agreed for a friend to move into the area. It would mean, of course, that there would be expectations, such as following local laws. These undead around you... you would need to do something about them as they could pose a threat to the rest that live there."

"Oh yeah..." the grim states as if he had forgotten about his book. "Let me just hand that over to you..." He reaches in his pocket and produces a prominently displayed middle finger. "Let me just hand you MY MOT PRIZED POSSESSION TO WHICH MY LIFE IS BOUND!" He stands there breathing heavily for a moment. The undead in the area seem to react to the this, closing in slightly. The electricity in the air intensifies as you feel your cloths begin to spark with static electric discharges.
After a moment he calms. The air lightens and the undead back off again. "No, no I think it will come with me. I am my magic you crimson dunce and my magic is me. Show me where I will be going and be gone. As far as your priestling, I will release him once I am living amongst them. If they reject me then he will die."

Raphael appears uninfluenced by the Grim's temper tantrum.
"You're quite a different creature from the one we encountered the other day. Indeed, the creature we encountered longed for a time when he could be one with a society..."
Raphael strolls a couple steps away and examines the undead, contemplatively.
"The Grim we know was no danger to the town... however... this Grim..." Raphael examines the Grim, then glances over at the Priestling, seemingly weighing the situation.
Raphael pulls out a worn and tattered piece of paper from his bag and quickly tucks it away. He continues, "You say this book is your life, but yet you tore a piece of it to give to the potion maker."
"To live this life, you must be willing to reinvent yourself and accept a mortality that all other must face. You must rebuke your dark magic and evil ways. And of course, pledge to never again eat babies."

[ooc]Sorry didn't realize if I was here or on the road. Things were a bit unclear[/ooc]
"Now now Raphael, I don't think we should ask him to renounce his entire way of life. Though most people don't tolerate magic in general, so I would be cautious about your magic, though I would recommend that to anyone as they wouldn't like that regardless of who you are."

The grim looks at Raphael for a moment and nods, seemingly deciding to completely ignore the man he thinks is trying to steal his soul.
"You, Priestling, Show me on this map where I would go and be gone. I tire of people who would judge me and think they are smarter. I HAVE KNOWLEDGE THAT WOULD REDUCE YOU TO BED DAMPENING SIMPS and yet people always condescend and assume I don't know how the world works. EVERYONE WANTS MY POWER!......Everyone....But they don't want what comes with....no.....Show me priestling, and begone."

Sharara furrows her brows a little. "My interests might be inclined to learn what you know, but I don't desire to take anything from you. I only want this to be resolved."

Naphem marks the map where Southguard is. "Remember, You will have to follow the rules of the settlement. But these are the same rules that everyone must follow. So that would include getting rid of the undead, as well as not using your magic near the townsfolk. Not because of who you are, but because those are the laws that we all must follow"

"Wait, wait, wait," Ashe cuts in as she moves over towards the Grim, "you mean to tell me that you're going to just LET these adventurers screw you over?" Ashe chuckles lightly and shakes her head. "Do you have any idea where they just marked on your map?" Ashe says as she takes the map out of his hands with stealth and haste, before he has a chance to even take a look at it, "probably not somewhere you'd like to go. Last time I was there, it was cold, rainy, and haunted." Ashe continues as she scribbles out the marks on the map until even the general location is useless. "See, people like you and me, we're not meant for the city life. All people want to do is kill us when they meet us. They underestimate how much power we have, ya know?" Ashe says lowly to the Grim, "It would probably be best for you to continue living in your all-powerful way outside of a city." Ashe whispers lowly to the Grim, "This guy is a priest of Tiberius, and all you wanted from him was to live in a city? Couldn't you have done that yourself?" Ashe returns to her companions.
